Breathwork

What is Breathwork?

Your breath is one of the most accessible and powerful tools to help support and regulate your nervous system. Breathwork is the practice of intentionally changing your breathing pattern to influence how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Breathwork can be used in different ways depending on the intention of the session.

Functional breathwork focuses on practical breathing techniques that support nervous system regulation, grounding, focus and emotional balance. These gentle practices are designed to be integrated into your daily life to help improve overall breathing patterns. I tend to integrate these into counselling sessions to help clients feel more present, regulated and connected during therapeutic work.

Breathwork journeys are longer, guided sessions that use intentional breathing patterns alongside carefully selected music to support deeper self-exploration, emotional release and inner connection. These sessions offer space to gently explore what may be held beneath the surface in a safe and supported way.

The style of breathwork I use for standalone journeys is called Conscious Connected Breathwork. This is a powerful practice that uses a continuous (no pauses between breaths), intentional breathing pattern.

Through guided breathwork, many people experience a sense of release, insight, grounding, and renewed connection to themselves.

Other possible benefits of breathwork include:

  • Reduces feelings of stress and overwhelm
  • Supports emotional regulation
  • Calms the nervous system
  • Increases self-awareness
  • Releases tension held in the body
  • Improves focus and mental clarity
  • Creates space for relaxation and reflection

Why Breathwork?

Breathwork became part of my own healing journey while moving through grief, helping me release emotion and reconnect with myself in a way that felt deeply supportive.

This experience strengthened my belief that the mind and body are not separate. Our emotions are not only thought and felt — they are also held within the body.

As a counsellor, I offer breathwork because it beautifully complements talk therapy. While words help us make sense of our experiences, the breath can help us regulate the nervous system, build mindfulness, and gently access what may be difficult to express.

At its heart, breathwork is an invitation to slow down, become present, and reconnect with yourself through the simple but powerful act of breathing.

My Approach

My breathwork sessions are trauma-aware, compassionate, and centred around creating a safe space for exploration and regulation.

There is no pressure to “perform” or push beyond your comfort zone. The focus is always on working gently with the body, building awareness, and supporting your individual needs. Each session is guided in a safe, supportive environment and tailored to meet you where you are.

What to Expect in a Session

Breathwork sessions are designed to feel grounding, supportive, and accessible.

A typical session may include:

  • A short check-in
  • Gentle grounding or mini breath practices
  • Guided conscious breathing
  • Meditation and space for rest, reflection, and integration
  • Optional discussion afterwards

No previous experience is needed. You will simply be guided to focus on your breath in a way that supports your body and nervous system. However some of the practices may not be suitable for those with certain medical conditions (please see booking page). You will be required to complete a disclaimer before booking to ensure the practice is safe for you.
